Mission 10 Update

April 2024

Message from Pastor Kristian

It’s hard to believe that April is almost over, and May is right around the corner…yet here we are! The first few months of missions at CLA have been amazing – God has been so faithful! Here’s January through April at a glance.

We had three amazing global missions trips, two successful Student Missions Dinners, invited hundreds of neighbors to join us for Easter Sunday, and launched our Mission 10 Work Days. I am constantly amazed by our CLA family and their willingness to share the Good News through serving, giving and going!

In addition, this is a great time to share an update on our television ministry broadcast. As you likely know, we have been broadcasting our Sunday services weekly on ABC and CBS for the past few years. Recently, we began broadcasting on God TV every week as well and now have a global audience online through this outlet.

Through God TV, we are thrilled to be able to share our Sunday services, podcast and special programs such as our Christmas Eve TV Special and Good Friday Online Service. We are so thankful for the Lord’s provision in being able to share His love around the world.

Finally, several times a year I want to update you on our Mission 10 goals. Mission 10 is CLA’s strategic approach to expand the Kingdom of God. Here is a snapshot since this initiative was initially launched in 2017:

  • 614 CLA attendees have gone on a missions trip experience for the first time
  • $7,863,688 has been given for missions projects and missionary support in the U.S. and around the world
  • 21 new short- or long-term missionaries from CLA’s church family have chosen to GO to the missions field Praise the Lord!

Local Missions

Invite Team | The Power of a Simple Invite

On Saturday, March 30, the day before Easter, 12 individuals took a few hours of their weekend to visit several local neighborhoods. Equipped with Easter invite door hangers, this friendly crew knocked on doors and offered a simple invite for those without a church home to visit CLA for Easter. They gave out several hundred door hangers.

We have heard so many stories about the power of a simple invite, how it encouraged someone to visit and how their life was ultimately changed. Furthermore, in a study referenced in Dr. Thom Rainer's book, The Unchurched Next Door, an astounding “82% of the unchurched are at least somewhat likely to attend church if invited.”

Our next You Belong Invite Team is scheduled for
Saturday, September 7 at 9:00 AM. If you’d like to participate, you may register online.

Jubilee Day | Connect with Our Community

We love our local community, and we’re excited to once again be part of Jubilee Day in Mechanicsburg this summer. Jubilee Day is a popular annual event, and many individuals from our community attend. This event will be held on Thursday, June 20.

CLA will sponsor the event’s Petting Zoo, and we will have a vendor booth with various kids’ activities, such as face painting and balloon animals. Being part of this event offers a great opportunity for our staff and volunteers to provide a fun, meaningful experience for families, connect with attendees and share information about CLA.

We have a variety of volunteer opportunities available, such as setting up the Petting Zoo area the night before, greeting guests during the day and helping with fun kids’ activities! Learn more about each of these options and register; we have various shifts to pick from. Families are also welcome to serve together!

Domestic Missions

Students Matter | Michael and Rachel Kubus (PennDel Youth Alive) – Pennsylvania & Delaware

CLA loves to partner with missionaries so that Jesus can be shared to those who do not yet know Him. One of those missionary couples is Michael and Rachel Kubus who serve with PennDel Youth Alive in the Pennsylvania/Delaware District.

With a heart for discipleship, they encourage, empower and equip teens to share Jesus in their schools as Campus Missionaries across the states of Pennsylvania and Delaware. This provides the opportunity to reach approximately 1.3 million students.

Since students spend nearly 50% of their time on their school campus, this becomes their primary missions field. Youth Alive provides one day in person and monthly Zoom trainings, as well as various workshops throughout the year to help commission students to share Jesus with their friends in practical ways.

To learn more about this ministry or how you can become a Youth Alive Campus Missionary, visit PennDel Youth Alive.

It’s Not Too Late!

Global Missions

An Unexpected Twist | King’s Castle, El Salvador

From the early stages of planning, the El Salvador trip was like any other with team meetings, logistical discussions and prayer. Little did the March 2024 team know that God had something different for them this time!

Upon arrival, our team was informed of an unexpected twist. Not only would our construction team be partnering with Victory Church from Ohio, but so would our evangelism team. Additionally, our medical team would be partnering with Victory Church and a group of nurses from Palm Beach. These partnerships seemingly threw a curve ball into the “plans” we had, but God has the Master Plan and knew exactly what He was doing.

The union of likeminded ministry provided a great week of serving others while offering a small glimpse into what Heaven must be like. The team served with one Spirit and, for this reason, over 825 people chose to say “yes” to Jesus. They also had an opportunity to pray with people regarding problems they face on a day-to-day basis along with the need for physical, emotional and spiritual healings.

Our God cares and still heals today, as many on the evangelism team were able to witness firsthand. One of the healings was of a little boy who had a serious heart problem. The teachers at the school asked if our team could pray for him. Upon approach, you could sense his sickness, as witnessed through his labored breathing and blue lips.

Team members from both churches and staff from the school circled around him to pray. The prayer was powerful and lasted for several minutes. When it was complete, the little boy appeared to have no change, but God was not done yet! The team members circled around him again and, this time, anointed him with oil.

During the prayer, everyone sensed the move of the Spirit and that “something had happened,” including the audible change of no more coughing from the little boy. Following the prayer, the visual symptoms of the heart condition that were present before the prayer diminished as his lips were increasingly less blue and his breathing normalized. Although the team may never receive a report from the doctor to confirm the healing, they all walked away knowing God healed the boy!

This is just one of many stories of how the Holy Spirit moves today. Many people who have gone to King’s Castle likely have at least one story they can share. It is not because this is the only place that God moves but, as a believer, you will be challenged to put your faith into action through the power of the Holy Spirit who is within you. When you do this, you will be changed forever!

This summer, we have several students who experienced life change through the Holy Spirit and have committed to serve as short-term missionaries at King’s Castle. Please keep Elliott Hyman, Matt Johnson, Alejandro Escalet and Hannah Bowers in prayer over the next several months as they raise their funds and “GO” serve Jesus…no matter what twists come their way.

An Unexpected Twist | King’s Castle, El Salvador

Do you have an adventurous spirit? Do you want to help people? You can do both by signing up for the Mount Kilimanjaro Climb. Through seeking sponsorships, your participation in this endeavor will raise funds to provide water wells in Kenya, Africa – thus changing the lives of villagers who must walk an average of 6-7 kilometers per day just for clean water.

Once a water well is placed, a community will be established, and one of the first buildings will be a church. Why? So that people can be introduced to the Living Water and experience eternal life change!

To start your adventure, register by June 1.

Prayer Requests

Will you join us in prayer?

  • Hands & Feet Ministry | Harrisburg, PA – Pray for those who serve the less fortunate in downtown Harrisburg, as the season change causes a shift in the needs within this community, allowing a new opportunity to share the message of hope through Jesus.
  • Michael & Rachel Kubus (PennDel Youth Alive) | Pennsylvania and Delaware – Pray for the students who step forward as Campus Missionaries to create opportunities as a positive influence toward Jesus in their schools and for those who say yes to engage and grow in a relationship with Jesus.
  • Missionaries | Sensitive Area – Pray for our friend’s safety and endurance as they move to a new role in serving in a sensitive area and risking their lives on a daily basis.
